Johnsonville Rotary is pleased to confirm our 2024 Toot 4 Tucker Collections will be on Tuesday 12th November and Tuesday 19th November in Johnsonville and Churton Park respectively. The collections run from 6:15pm until approximately 7:30pm. As usual we will be joined with the Johnsonville Volunteer Fire Service walking the streets and collecting non perishable food to support Kiwi Community Assists Foodbanks. On Saturday 18th May members and friends of the club will be collecting money on behalf of the Mary Potter Hospice Street Appeal at the New World Supermarket in Newlands throughout the day. The street appeal is one of several being held at multiple venues across North Wellington on Saturday to raise funds to support the important work and service Mary Potter provides. On 11th March the club and guests had a presentation by Neil Haydon on Bletchley Park; the top-secret home of Britain’s World War Two Codebreakers. Neil outlined how Bletchley Park came to be set up and its work during World War 2 including breaking the German Military’s Enigma machine codes early in the war. He also explained how codebreakers were able to break the even more complex Lorenz machine later in the war and how all these successes probably shortened WW2 by 2 years

Johnsonville Rotary was pleased to assist in arranging the delivery of 60 cartons of reading books for Niue Primary Early Childhood development collected and donated by local resident, Jan Jones. New Zealander Jan Jones was inspired to collect the books after living in Rarotonga with her husband having taught there for many years. Johnsonville Rotary linked up with the Institute of Engineering and technology (IET) to run a successful Robots workshop at Newlands Intermediate School in September. On 24th July the club welcomed Sia Goel a student from Newlands College, who the club sponsored on the 2023 Innovative Young Minds Program. On Sunday 6th August club members from Johnsonville joined members of Tawa Rotary to visit Life Flight’s base at Wellington Airport. Sebastian Grodd and members of the Life Flight Team welcome demonstrate their new aircraft and the Westpac Helicopter Johnsonville Rotary along with other Rotary clubs in District 9940 in raising funds to equip Life Flight’s new aircraft so they can safely transport very small children in incubators and their families in emergency situations. Martin Garcia; Past Chair of the Rotary Foundation was a guest at the club meeting on 10th July. Martin was there to say thanks and present new Club President Athula Wanasinghe with an award recognising the clubs Charitable Donations and support for the Rotary Foundation over the past year. The Foundation awards recognise the financial contribution raised and donated to the foundation by the clubs programs, events, and activities.

On the 26th June the club held it’s annual changeover meeting. Outgoing Club President; Neil Haydon reviewed the club’s achievements and activities during the last 12 months and thanked all members for their support. Johnsonville Rotary has honoured Michael Hodgen with a Paul Harris Fellowship Double Sapphire Pin to recognise his dedicated service efforts on behalf of the club and the community.
